Walking Shadow’s acclaimed immersive play with puzzles, Cabal, has added new cast members who will perform in rotation with the original cast. The initial cast of Cabal featured Jamie Case and Tara Borman. They are now joined by Sophina Saggau and Laila Sahir, who will share the roles of Morgan Zakar and Jack Nimble on a rotating basis.
Sophina Saggau (Jack Nimble) is a graduate of The University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theatre BFA Actor Training Program. Her favorite past roles include Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Clytemnestra in Agamemnon, and Cass in The Adventures of Tibby and Cass which she co-wrote and co-directed.
Laila Sahir (Morgan Zakar) is a graduate of Luther College in Decorah, IA. Her most recent credits include Artificial (Hercules Theatre Company), Evita (Lyric Arts), and As You Like It (21/40 Productions). She is absolutely thrilled to be joining this team and cannot wait to share this story with everyone!
Tara Borman (Morgan Zakar) is fresh off the boat from a year of donning sequins and singing pop songs on the “Silversea” luxury cruise ships. Tara is also an original cast member of the midwestern phenomenon Church Basement Ladies, having performed her role of Beverly over 2,000 times in various productions. Other credits include work with Yellow Tree Theatre, Artistry, 7th House, Sidekick Theatre & The Actors Theatre of MN. Currently, you can also catch Tara in the new interactive dinner show Happy Birthday You Dirty Rat at Al’s Speakeasy.
Jamie Case (Jack Nimble) is a freelance actor and scenic carpenter in the Twin Cities. She received her BFA in Acting from the University of South Dakota. Theatre credits include Rochester Civic Theatre (Moon Over Buffalo, Diary of Anne Frank), Artistry (W;t, Noises Off), Swandive Theatre (mONSTER, Bliss as part of the Living Room Tour), Theatre Forever (Venetian Twins), Nebraska Shakespeare on Tour (As You Like It), and South Dakota Shakespeare (Taming of the Shrew). Jamie was also a manager at Trapped Puzzle Rooms for nearly three years and has played over 60 escape rooms.
Cabal combines intimate acting with an immersive environment and enormous, hands-on puzzles for the audience to solve. Because of the interactive nature of the show, each audience is limited to just 10 people. In Cabal, the audience become Initiates to a magical secret society. When something suddenly goes awry, they must join the action, completing unique puzzles to help solve the mystery. Part play, part escape room, Cabal is structured like a video game, alternating playable moments with actor-driven story sequences.
Cabal is the third play with puzzles from Walking Shadow, following the sold-out 1926 Pleasant at the 2006 Fringe Festival and the immensely popular Saboteur in 2011. Puzzles from previous productions (which predated formal escape rooms) included a 3D jigsaw puzzle with 2-foot pieces, a laser maze, a giant tilt maze, and a room full of bones and eggs. Cabal’s original puzzles are tailored to the story’s world of magic, and are designed to be fun rather than fiendish!
Puzzle Designer and Project Lead David Pisa (1926 Pleasant, Saboteur) has previously designed interactive puzzles events and escape rooms for Riddle Room (2017 Golden Lock-In Award from Room Escape Artist), Northern Spark (including the Night Library), MNZero, and many others. He is also Walking Shadow’s Executive Director.
Script Writer and Performance Director John Heimbuch (as writer: The Transdimensional Couriers Union, William Shakespeare’s Land of the Dead, Drakul, A Midwinter Night’s Revel; as director: The Aliens, Marie Antoinette, Mary Stuart, Hatchet Lady) has previous written and performed in puzzle events for Walking Shadow, Northern Spark, and the Minnesota History Center. He is also Walking Shadow’s Co-Artistic Director.
Cabal’s design and production team comprises more than 40 designers and artists, including an architect, electrical engineers, computer programmers, and sculptors, in addition to the usual sound (Isabel Patt), lights (Megan Reilly), costumes (E. Amy Hill) and sets (also David Pisa).
